We’re interested in how play influences our society, and the power it has to educate and connect us. This document demonstrates the opportunity and need for good design in play environments. We will move through the history of playgrounds, current things going on around us today, the evolving role and importance of community space, challenges we’ll encounter and finally, possible directions we may follow.

Welcome to anyone and everyone that comes across our blog. Jesse and I started this blog to share and gather information about our thesis, "Car-Free Bay Area". This is not a permanent title, but rather a starting point to begin our research. We're hoping to look at the areas of: the connection of communities and being car-free, how people shop and commute without a car, suburban vs urban living, what's working with cars, new car technologies (i.e. electric cars), and anything else related to the idea of being car-free. It's very early on in our research, and we don't want to narrow down too fast. I'd also like to add, that neither of us (hopefully Jesse doesn't mind that I speak for him on this) are suggesting cars disappear completely. We see the importance in fire trucks, taxis, ambulances, etc. But rather it's time to have a look at how much we use our private vehicles. I'm sure Jesse can add some more. Thanks to everyone that reads, posts and participates. ~Rye
